Solar

We are specialists at solar system anti islanding protection relay injection testing.  We carry out all testing and provide you with compliance reports to submit to SAPN to meet your connection agreement requirements.

Protection Relay Injection Testing

Our technicians use Doble and Omicron test sets to suit your application.  The most common relays we test for solar anti islanding systems are Woodwards, ABBs, and ComAps, but we are experienced with many other manufacturers including SEL, Siemens, GE and Basler.

Our testing program is customised for every site against the SAPN Connection Agreement specific to the site, but typically includes:

  • Undervoltage
  • Overvoltage
  • Under Frequency
  • Over frequency
  • Voltage unbalance
  • Rate of change of frequency
  • Vector shift
  • Ride through testing

We can test program and test your relay right out of the box before you install it, or we can come to your workshop to test it in the board prior to site installation, or we can come to site and carry out testing on site.

Testing only takes a couple of hours per relay.  We also test your motorised circuit breaker to ensure that relay signals get all the way through.  We highly recommend that your circuit breaker includes trip and closed indication, as well as motorised controller functions, and if required we can help you in the product selection and design as well.

Power Quality Testing

Another common requirement for connection approvals is ensuring that the power quality of exported power meets standards, or even the effect that your connected loads don’t have a detrimental effect on the system power quality.

We connect high speed data harmonic logging devices to your connection point and evaluate the power quality using spectrum analysis.  We use a range of equipment, from Fluke to Hioki and other various equipment, depending on the access and data capture requirements.

We evaluate the total harmonic distortion of the connection point, as well as tabulated harmonic orders up to 50, satisfying the requirements of SAPN for power quality standards.

Witness Testing Support

Depending on the size and complexity of your new connection, the SAPN commissioning and approval day can be daunting.  Our team are able to support you on the day to answer any technical queries that the SAPN office may have on site, or carry out the temporary protection changes to demonstrate system disconnection, or just be there to support you.  We recommend meeting on site a short time ahead of SAPN to ensure that all systems are in expected and functional condition, and that the site is ready for approval.
